In a couple of months, on September 14th, Jason, Peter and Steve will be doing the 22-mile stand up paddleboarding race in Tahoe. To prepare for the Tahoe Fall Classic, they have been rigorously training 3 to 4 times a week.
Jason, Peter and Steve took two gymnastics rings and hung them under the Cal Poly Pier to increase their upper arm workouts. Although Harbor Control took the rings away for safety reasons, Jason, Peter and Steve have found alternative ways to up their workouts. They paddle from Beach Comber in Shell Beach to various beaches where they stop on the beach to do push-ups and squats. They have been paddling around 20 miles a week and hope to end with 30 miles a week before the race in September. Peter has created a marathon schedule that they are following to keep in shape for the race. They hope to maintain a speed of 5 to 5 1/2 miles per hour during the Tahoe Classic.
For training, both Jason and Peter are paddling on the 2014 Naish One Air Inflatable. The inflatable creates a drag, which makes it more difficult for long distance paddling. Jason and Peter will be using the 2013 Naish Javelin 12’6″ LEÂ for the race. Jason will also be using the Werner Grand Prix F1000 paddle. Steve and Tyler, friends of Jason, will be in the race as well. Tyler will be using the 2014 Riviera RP Series Raceboard.
